Word to the wise...

...from the unwise. Do not eat two little squares of a Hershey's bar, even if it is 9 HOURS BEFORE your glucose test.

Because those teeny tiny pieces of chocolate are not worth it, they will not be out of your system, and they will cause you to fail said glucose test. BY ONE POINT.

And then, you will have to go back and retake the damn thing. But the second time is even better because instead of just drawing your blood after one hour, they get to draw it every hour for THREE HOURS. During which time you cannot eat or drink anything (after not being able to eat or drink anything after midnight the night before). All you can do is sit in the waiting room, judging others and hating yourself.

Well, that's what I'll be doing at least. Because that's what I do when I'm in a bad mood; I judge.

Don't judge me.

Hey girl! Hey!

Skeletina's a girl! Thank goodness, otherwise my poor little boy would get teased for wearing pink all the time...

The doctor gave me a disc with a bunch of pictures from the sonogram today on it, so I've posted a few on here. Luckily, they've labeled what exactly it is I'm supposed to be looking at, otherwise I'd just have to say, "Look, isn't that dot cute! It's a hand! Or maybe...an elbow?"

Also, the glucose test (diabetes, I think?) was not as terrible as I thought-at least the not being able to eat or drink anything. I was awake until a little after 4 am-had a hard time sleeping because I was really nervous I was going to find out Baby was missing a leg or something. Anyway, I was way too tired to even notice I was hungry, so I guess that worked out.

Here she is! All 2.5 pounds and 13.5 inches of her! (Oh, and in case you were curious, I asked, and I'm officially 26 and a half weeks! Yay, now I know for sure!)

First up is a fist, then her hand without a fist made (don't mess with her, she'll punch, then slap you!). Then there's a foot, then a couple shots of her face. She has an actual little round face now, instead of just a skeleton looking thing!

These next ones are what they were looking at to determine if it was a girl or boy. You can see her little thigh bones and (I think) her knee. And the little arrow points to where her little lady parts are, I guess. This is why they get paid to do this stuff and I get paid nothing to blog about it!

Boy or Girl?!

Well, I'm going to the doctor again tomorrow (and keeping my fingers crossed it's a girl-I know I shouldn't say that, but I'm way to girly to even know where to begin with a little boy)! I know that either way, it's going to be fun, but I just won't be able to get away with putting giant bows on a little boy's head...

I'm getting tested for diabetes tomorrow, so I'm not supposed to eat or drink anything other than water after midnight tonight, which will be quite a struggle seeing as I've gotten used to eating, ummm, every couple of hours.

Haha, ok, not quite, but still. I'm probably not going to be in the best of moods tomorrow (nothing new there!), but at least my appointment is early, so I can have a big breakfast afterwards.

Ok, confession. This is terrible, but I'm still not 100% as to exactly how far along I am. I'm so confused as to how it's calculated, and according to what they said at my first sonogram, I would be coming into my 27th week. But then a couple weeks later, they said something different, which would make about to come into my 26th week. I know it's not a major difference, but still. I don't like not knowing the exact number. Anyway, I'm going to try and find out for sure tomorrow.

According to TheBump.com, the baby is about the size of an eggplant, which explains why I can not only feel the kicking going on, but once in awhile (if I'm paying attention) can even see my hand jump if it's on my stomach. Also, it might be possible to hear the heartbeat just by putting your ear up to my stomach, but I don't really like people being that close to me, so we'll just go ahead and assume that's true.

Here lately, I've been completely drained of any energy, which sucks because I thought I was over that whole phase. I just can't seem to get enough sleep, and keep falling asleep every time I sit down. It could just be the heat though, who knows.

Anyway, time to go jump on the treadmill-trying to make sure I don't get TOO giant during all of this! I was weighed for my physical in Korea right after I got there, and then weighed again at my first appointment here and had actually lost about 9 lbs since I was doing so much walking over there (and eating nothing because the food was terrible-too bad I didn't even realize it until it was time for me to actually start gaining weight), but since then, I've gained about 10 lbs. So I guess I'm just a little over what I was when I started, but it's all in my stomach now. I guess the good thing is, as I get bigger, more and more people will offer me their spot whenever I happen to be somewhere with limited seating! :)

Skeletina

Well, as usual, I've been a bad blogger. My apologies!

I feel like not much has changed since my last update, and yet so much has! For one thing, I went from being the only person I know who's having a baby (meaning, terrified, lonely, and a bit miserable), to learning that THREE really close friends of mine are also expecting! Happy happy news! Think of all the cuteness that will be popping up in the upcoming months! All the baby news is making me so excited for everyone else, but also more excited for myself and less scared.

Frustrating as it is, I still am not positive of the sex. At my first sonogram, I was told that they were about 90% sure that little Skeletina (what I call Baby) is a girl, but that was still a bit early to know for sure. At my next scheduled sonogram, the equipment was down, and everyone was having to reschedule. At the NEXT one, Skeletina was (already taking after me) being a bit of a brat and was face down-so we couldn't see anything more than a profile and spinal cord (silver lining, baby has a spinal cord! He/she can walk!).

My next appointment is in two weeks and by then I'll be about 26 weeks along (if I'm counting correctly, I need to go check the calendar to be positive though) so HOPEFULLY we'll get some answers then. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Other than that, I've been feeling great, other than a little episode once or twice when I was feeling a little dizzy (this morning being the worst). But after a snack and a break, I'm back to normal! My belly is getting bigger every week, and while I know that's "exciting" and normal and supposed to be happening, I think it's definitely the part I'm enjoying the least! I'm so ready for Skeletina to get here so I can meet her/him and we can play, but a tiny part of me is really excited so I can start getting back into my old workout routine. As it is, I get yelled at for even attempting to lift a 10 pound bag of ice! My purse weighs more than that, I'm sure I can handle the ice! :)

Honestly though, I'm just trying to adjust and enjoy this time (I have an excuse to nap almost whenever I want!) since I know it won't last for long!

Anyway, here's a couple pictures from my first sonogram-the top one is the reason we call baby Skeletina (looks like Skeletor, but just in case it's a girl, something more feminine seemed appropriate). Like I said, these are from quite awhile ago, so Baby has grown quite a bit! As soon as I have any more information, I'll be sure and update!

A new chapter.

I've never thought of myself as a particularly nurturing person, especially when it comes to children. I mean, I love babies-baby smells, baby clothes, baby talk. But I also love giving Baby back to his or her parents whenever I'm done playing (which is usually about the same time Baby poops or starts crying).

I tend to be a selfish person. My hamster died of dehydration; any fish I have owned have rarely stayed alive for longer than a couple weeks; in all of my 25 years, I've only managed to keep one plant alive-and even then, said plant had a couple pretty close near-death experiences until my dad took over and revived it. I used to joke with friends that any children I had were going to boarding school, because that would be so much easier on me.

And yet, here I sit, a little over 3 months pregnant. What the hell happened, right?!

Beats me.

As most people who read this (2 or 3 of you?) know, I'm back home from Korea.

That didn't last long!

As much as I enjoyed certain aspects of it, I was still having a really hard time adjusting, and had pretty much convinced myself after a couple weeks that I absolutely hated it and was ready to come home. Then, I finally realized I was pregnant, which sealed it in my mind that I was positive I was ready to come home.

Home! Where my family and friends are! Where people eat normal food! Where it's still considered bad manners to talk with food in your mouth, smack, spit on the floor, and walk directly into people without apologizing! I realized that those are just cultural differences, but I also realized I severely, severely overestimated how tolerant I am.

Don't get me wrong, the country is pretty interesting. There's a lot of stuff I didn't get to experience and I'd love to go back someday. As a tourist. For a week. Maybe two.

But back to my original news. I'm back home and working on finding a full-time, "real" job (if you know of anyone that's hiring, please let me know!), and substitute teaching in the meantime.

I am keeping the baby, for those of you who are curious. I realize that the circumstances aren't exactly ideal, and I'm sure there will be some people who will judge me and change their opinion of me because of this. Which is totally fine, everyone is entitled to their opinions, blah blah blah. Just kidding.

Anyway, I don't know the sex yet, but I'll be updating this more with baby news as I get it (or whenever I'm feeling like an insomniac, such as tonight).

One more thing, I want to take a second to mention how amazing, understanding and supportive my parents and sister have been from the beginning. I couldn't ask for better family for any child to have.

Enough for now!
Goodnight!

Some pictures...

Here's an album with just a few of the pictures I've taken so far. These are all from the plane and orientation.

Enjoy!

My apologies.

Oh, I've been such a bad blogger! I have a good reason for not blogging the first week I was in Busan though, I didn't have any internet access in my apartment-I may have already said this. Anyway, last Friday my internet was finally fixed, hooray!

So now that I'm starting to get a routine down, I will make sure to update more often, and I'll be sure to put up some pictures on here.

Right now, I'm at my school so I don't have any pictures on this computer to go ahead and post. It's kinda crazy because even though on most days my last class is done at 12:10 pm, I can't leave until 4:40! It's like torture! Ideally, I'm supposed to use that time for lesson planning, but since I've been here, my coteachers have already had plans ready. They're very last minute here, and have an annoying habit of just telling me the morning of or (usually) during class what they want me to say/do. It was pretty frustrating at first, but now I'm just getting used to them saying something in Korean to the kids, then looking at me and expect me to know what to do! I just have to be quick on my feet...

Despite the lack of organization they seem to have, my coteachers are the two sweetest ladies named Jung Hyang and...? It took me almost a week to get down one name, I'm still working on the other's. I think I'll just give them all English names to go by. Sweet as they are, their teaching methods leave me thinking the kids aren't learning as much English as they would if I had more input in the planning. But, for now, we're all still getting used to each other. I'm gradually trying to work in different things that I think will be more effective than the coteacher automatically translating everything I say to Hangul (Korean)!

This kids are so cute and so funny! It can be frustrating trying to break down phrases like "What day is it?" to something they'll understand-today, I asked one of my 5th grade classes this and they all said "It's sunny!" haha! But I just have to keep reminding myself to speak slowly, use a LOT of hand gestures and exaggerated facial expressions and be patient and it'll all work out!

Anyway, I'm going to get back to "work," I still have 2 more hours before I can go home. I've been emailing my parents regularly, so I'll be using those emails to help me post what all's been going on the past couple of weeks!

Annyong haseyo!
